Q: “Tomorrow’s News” is an interesting name, how did you guys decide on that?

A: We used to be Electrical Engineers Unplugged when it was just Matt and Stan, but then Andrew joined and he was a carpenter at the time, and the name was sort of long so we decided to change it. After some brainstorming (and asking everybody in our dorm building) we figured that was a good name for us.

Q: What genre do you guys feel you fall into?  Or better yet how would you describe the band?

A: It’s funny because people tell us after shows we sound like all these different bands. We’ve heard everything from Dashboard to OAR to Dispatch to Jack Johnson. We feel like it’s just acoustic fronted rock, the specific label is up to you.

Q: So tell me what CD is in your player right now?

Matt: Five Iron Frenzy – The End Is Near

Stan: Caedmon’s Call - Chronicles

Andrew: Madonna

Mike: Live Dave Matthews

Q: I see from your website that Matt seems to do the writing, where does your inspiration come from?

A: I’d have to say I draw pretty much from my everyday experiences a lot. Just the things I see around school will spur ideas, and by the time it’s finished being written it usually doesn’t have much to do with what it started out with. There’s always the influence from the girlfriend, and a lot has to do with my walk with God.

Q: I know I always write at night, usually late, usually with candles. Do you have any rituals that help you to write?

A: Interestingly enough, a lot of songs (especially the recent ones) have been written during my computer science class. I guess you could say out of boredom comes creativity. Nothing formal for me. Lately I’ve been writing the lyrics, singing them in my head a little bit, and then writing the guitar parts to match the vocal melody.

Q: You all seem to be playing as much as possible, have you had any rock n roll, Spinal Tap moments yet?

A: There was one week we were very very busy and we ended up yelling in a parking lot when we were a little high strung about stuff, but it’s since calmed down. We’re relatively new (a few months) so we are still trying to find a good routine.

Q: Who do you think your audience really is? How would you describe them?

A: Right now college age and a little younger seems to be the most opportune audience, especially since most of us are in college right now and two of us live on the URI campus. We’re still building up a “fanbase” but it seems to be going well, and there’s a lot of positive feedback so far.

Q: So what can each of you tell joebrummer.com about yourself that would help your fans get to know you better:

Matt:  I’m too cheap to pick up my cell-phone

Stan: I lived in Iceland and it was cool

Andrew: I ride John Deere tractors and love every second of it

Mike: I hate when Matt doesn’t pick up his cell-phone when I call

Q: It seems that the University of Rhode Island has a pretty tight music scene going.  How do you fit into that?

A: Matt and Stan are involved in the Musician’s Guild at URI, which is what it sounds like. They organize some shows and the bands involved play them and it’s a cool deal. Bands get to play, money goes to the guild and they buy stuff for the bands to play with. Works out well. You can check it out at http://www.thelocalspot.net      Last big show we had at URI over 250 people came out to support. That was an awesome response for the campus to local music.

Q: Where can we see you guys next?

A: Right now we just finished recording two demo tracks at Matt’s house for the Dunkin Donuts Rockin’ Garage contest. That sort of sucked all the life out of us. We put shows on hold for a few weeks while we did that, so now we’re open to scheduling things again. School’s winding down and we’re going to record a seven song cd that will be called “Bite the Hook” and will be available on our site and at shows.

Q: Do you have a website folks can visit?

A: Yes, made by Stan the man, you can find it at http://www.tomorrowsnewsmusic.com
