Q: So how did you guys meet?

A: Bill and Zac lived on the same floor in their dorm. They posted an ad looking for a drummer and bassist. Dan saw the ad and responded, and they practiced as a three piece for a while until they picked up Chapman, who had never played a bass.

Q: Where were you originally from?                                                                           Click Pic to Listen

A: Bill, Chapman, and Dan are all from Rhode Island. Zac’s from Bangor, Maine (Home of the largest Paul Bunyan statue in the world).

Q: Who is the main song writer in the band?

A: Bill writes a lot of the material and all lyrics.

Q: Do the others in the band write as well?

A: We usually write almost like an assembly line. After Bill writes a song, he introduces it to Zac, and they practice it as a two piece for a while. When the two of them feel confident with the material, they introduce it to Dan and Chapman who add their respective parts and complete the song. Everyone writes a little of every song.

Q: Who are the big influences for you guys?  What artists do you listen to?

A: Wow. That’s a pretty hard question to answer in one page. They range anywhere from Dream Theatre and Incubus (Chapman) to Glassjaw and Mudvayne (Zac) to Dave Matthews and John Coltrane (Dan) to singer/songwriters like Matt Nathanson and John Mayer (Bill). We come from very different musical backgrounds.

Q:  How have you found Rhode Island as a music venue?  Do you like the crowds you have found?

A: It’s in the process of a renaissance. We find that most of our audiences are college age and people we know. Rhode Islander’s need to come out and show their support for local music!

Q: You mentioned in your email to me that you were going to be recording soon, what can your fans expect from you?  Will it be a full length album, a demo, an EP

A: We’re going down to Orlando, Florida to record a 6-8 song EP. It should be out early Fall of ’04.

Q: So your fans can get to know you better, what is one thing you can tell www.joebrummer.com about each of you?

A:  Zac: I’m not allowed to come within 15 feet of alcohol before a show.

A:  Bill: I’m an aries, I enjoy playing acoustic guitar, long walks on the beach at night, and shots of jaegermeister.

A: John: I’m definitely the sexy one in the group.

A: Dan: When I’m not playing drums, I play Saxophone, guitar, piano, and Tuba, and the lute.

Q: So is this a fun hobby or are you guys going for a Grammy?

A: We’re going to take this as far as it will bring us. We take things day by day and jump on opportunity that’s given to us.

Q: Finally, what is next for Drift?  Where can we see you?  Do you have a website your fans can visit?

A: You can visit our website at http://drift.binwar.com/ for free mp3’s and everything you could ever want to know about drift.

So the band said I could pick whatever song I wanted to put on the site. I picked "Come Home" because it's got a great bass line and a nice feel, and damn it, I just like it!.  Click Here to Listen to "Drift"
